Mortal Skulls Motorcycle Club a Run for Awareness

Do you remember the Story of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia? Carlie was the little girl from LI NY who while staying with her mother down in FL was kidnapped and murdered on Super Bowl Sunday, 2004. Her abduction was captured on video in front of the car wash where she was Kidnapped by Joseph P. Smith, who has since been found Guilty of first-degree murder, sexual battery and kidnapping.

The story was carried nation wide and was heartbreaking to all who heard it. Now there is an old saying that every dark cloud has a Silver lining and if that is true then the Silver lining here is Matt Barbis, Carlie’s Cousin who started the Rose Brucia Educational Foundation (http://rosebrucia.org) with the Mission of reducing child abductions.

Matt goes around to Schools and preforms Puppet Shows and teaches children how to react and what to do if someone ever tries to adduct them. As you can imagine Matt’s Mission does not come without expense and the Foundation runs on Donations from Groups, Individuals and Businesses.

Matt who Rides a Motorcycle had seen the good that Bikers on Long Island do to Raise Money for those in need, He wanted to Start a Motorcycle Run to help raise Money for the Foundation. A Motorcycle Run is a lot of work and Matt was Referred to the Mortal Skulls Motorcycle Club (http://Mortalskulls.com) Who do a Run and/or Benefit every year.

When the Mortal Skulls MC heard Matt’s story and what his Mission was they quickly decided that this would be the run and benefit they would be doing for many years to come.What better cause can there be then keeping Children Safe? said one of the Members.

For the past 3 years now on the Third Sunday in June the Mortal Skulls Motorcycle Club have hosted the run and raised money for the foundation, The run starts every year at the Bellmore NY Train station on Sunrise Hwy,with sign up from 10:30 am till 12 Noon, and has ended at local Long Island Bars with live Music, food,Appearances by local NY Celebrities and so much more. The recommended Donation for the event is $10 per person and Run Shirts are available for an additional $10 with every penny of the Proceeds going to the Rose Brucia Educational Foundation. The Mortal Skulls Motorcycle Club Thank all who have come out to help and Support the event every year! This Fundraiser has quickly grown into a huge Long Island NY event, With the continued Support of the Long Island biker world and appearances by Celebrates it will continue to grow for many years to come!!!

When you are thinking about astronomy, the foremost thing that comes to mind is a telescope. This misconception is found every day. Actually, the first thing you need to do is look at the stars with a pair of binoculars.

One reason is that telescopes can cost you hundreds or more, and on top of that with all of the options that there are out there you may waste your money. Binoculars in most cases are cheaper, and there are certain things that you can see better with binoculars than you can with telescopes, such a comets and eclipses.

Before you jump in to a telescope you will also want to learn the sky and where the stars are, this can be done by studying a star map. This is why starting off with a pair of astronomy binoculars is great for the beginner that is first learning about astronomy.

After you have gained some knowledge about the sky above, you should be on your way to purchasing a telescope. Before buying a certain model based on specifications it is always a best of interest to read some reviews, or if you happen to have some friends that have been in astronomy to get some opinions from them also.

Some things to think about are what you plan to do with the telescope, how much you have to spend and are you going to take photographs of your sightings. If you are a causal backyard astronomer, you might even look at the Dobsonian telescopes.

The majority professional astronomers use a reflector type of telescope. This is where the light path is diverted to the concave lens or eyepiece. With the refractor telescopes, the light passes through the telescope by way of a lens to the eyepiece.

Most people that are beginners will start off with a reflecting telescope. If you are into viewing objects that are in our solar system such as planets, then it may be better to go with a refracting type though.

You will find areas with complete darkness are the most ideal, but city viewing is fine if you have very little light to distract your viewing. Keep in mind that planet viewing is spectacular. You can see the ring around Saturn as well as view Venus. Jupiter, which changes every time you view it, is an amazing planet to keep an eye on.

Another good thing if to keep an eye out for upcoming events, such as when planets come into view. Joining an astronomy club is a great way of doing this, also paying attention to the news. Astronomy magazine is also great for updates when major events happen.

To keep your reel working as it should, and to last as long as possible, it’s important to clean it regularly. The last thing you want when reeling in that big one, is for your rod to mess up!

I’ll start there–how often to clean… you really only need to clean your real once, preferably twice a year. When fishing in salt water, twice would be better. And like anything else, it’s easy when you know how. First, here are the tools you’ll need:

* a towel

* one small screw driver (generally a Phillips head)

* a bottle of reel grease–not WD-40 (WD-40 leaves a residue that attracts dirt. Use a good quality reel grease)

* a couple of Q-tips

* some paper towels

Firstly, remove your reel from the fishing rod. Use some paper towels to completely wipe it down.

Next you’ll need to remove the handle of your reel. It is generally removed one of two possible ways. There will either be some sort of screw in the handle, or you simply hold the reel in one hand and turn the handle backwards with your other hand. Set the handle down on a clean towel.

Next, remove the three to five screws that hold the reel together and sit them next to the handle. This then exposes a small “plate” which too should be removed. Place the plate next to the screws.

You are now looking inside the reel. First, with a Q-tip, clean visible debris and dirt that may be in the reel. Then put a couple drops of that good reel grease on each visible moving gear.

One caution here: a lot of grease is not necessarily a good thing. You can clog things with too much grease–a few drops is usually all that’s needed.

Now it’s time to reassemble. Just reverse the process you followed above. First put your plate back in place and screw it in. Now it’s time to reattach the handle, but before you do, add some grease to it as well, then reinstall it.
